It reminded me of an event we ran: the only piece of advice we got from the publicity department was not to refer to their author as a chick lit author. I wonder if there is a safe place to go for definitions that everyone agrees on -- I suspect not.
This is where my I-can-hardly-believe-my-luck stunned expression kicks in. Instead of thinking 'They're calling me a chic-lit writer' (which they are), I'm thinking 'They're talking about me?? Really??'
